CTFC is a centre of applied research, training and technology transfer, located at the Pre Pyrenees area, in the city of Solsona, Catalonia (Spain). CTFC’s aims are: to contribute to the modernization and competitiveness of forestry sector and to the sustainable development of environment in Mediterranean field.

CTFC carries out a great number of training activities at different academic levels and with several methods (on line or on site) Subjects matters: rural development, medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP), forest fire prevention, environmental energies, biomass, truffles…

Related to the project, APSB is focused to MAP cultivation wild wild harvesting research and technology transfer, having a close relationship with the Catalan Producers Association of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants (ACPPAM).

Nature Research Center, Institute of Botany, Laboratory of Economic Botany,


The Nature Research Centre, Institute of Botany is the state research institution which also is engaged in conducting different applied research works and services. One of the main objectives of the Institute of Botany is assessing of resources of not wood forest economic plants in changing ecosystems and preparation of methodic and recommendations of their sustainable use. The scientists take part in the IUCN SSC CWRSG activities (http://www.cwrsg.org ).

Nature Research Centre carries out an education program together with of training activities for higher school students on economic plants resources and use. The activity of researchers comprised of providing regular consultations and arranging of seminars on berry, medicinal and aromatic plants, giving information on their sustainable exploitation and conservation of resources.

Kilis 7 Aralık University is a centre of applied research, training and technology transfer, located at the Southern region of Turkey, in the city of Kilis Turkey. It is a state university gained its autonomous in 2007. It is aimed at our university to contribute to the scientific area in the field of agriculture, biology, wild life, nature conservation through training and technology transfer.

Our department holds different conferences, seminars and workshops related to rural development, ecology, medicinal and aromatic plants conservation, cultivation and chemical analysis. There are a number of collaborative projects with pharmacy, agriculture, forestry and other related sciences. Kilis is located near Mediterranean Region that rich in medicinal and aromatic plant taxa, and famous its essential oil plant species and berries. Every year, high amount of medicinal and aromatic plants’ drugs are collected from nature and exported other countries. In our city, some economic plants such as sumac, terebinth, thyme, licorice etc. are collected from nature and traded. Some small fabrics are produced natural products like terebinth coffee and licorice syroup/extract in Kilis. Our region is of important olive production area, as well.

Instituto Nacional de Recursos Biológicos, Banco Português de Germoplasma


The Instituto Nacional de Recursos Biológicos, I.P. (INRB, I. P). is a state laboratory which includes the former state laboratories Laboratório Nacional de Investigação Veterinária (LNIV) and Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e das Pescas (INIAP). Its mission is to pursuit research in the domain of biological resources. As such, its policies aim to protect and to add value to the Portuguese biological resources and to back-up Portuguese policies internally and towards the European Union.

INRB, I.P., intervenes in the following areas: 1) research, experimentation and demonstration activities in domains of science and technology, of agriculture, forestry, food and production, agro-forestry production, rural development and crop protection, as well as, food technologies and biotechnology, in order to support the definition of sectorial policies, implementing the scientific and technological bases and providing the technical support for the development and innovation within those domains; 2) research, experimentation and demonstration activities in “fisheries and resources of the sea” domains by giving scientific support to sectorial policies, implementing the scientific and technological bases and securing the technical support necessary to the development and innovation within these domains; 3) To participate in the conception and implementation of programmes of research, development and demonstration activities; 4) To cooperate with scientific and technological institutions with similar aims and to participate in national and international activities of science and technology, namely, through consortia, networks or other forms of conjunct work.

The Banco Português de Germoplasma Vegetal /INRB,I.P.(INRB/BPGV) is the National Genebank integrated in a National Research Institution in the Ministry of Agriculture. BPGV, in complement to the Genetic Resources Conservation, in special Aromatic and Medicinal Plants, also carries out an educational programme together with several types of schools, rural development associations, with adult training programmes.

BPGV has been involved in several projects, which lead to create synergies between Institutions and rural populations and some local development associations. It has been possible to give training to those populations: wild recollection rules to preserve biodiversity; MAP production in organic conditions; MAP propagation techniques; MAP use.
